BMW is officially introducing the new Vision iNext. The concept comes with controversial design. The serial version is launched in 2021
The good part about the Vision iNEXT concept is that it will not see the light of the day until 2021. And until then, there’s a lot to change, is not it?
BMW has published on the weekend just the first official photos and information of the new Vision iNEXT. It’s a concept that will “provide the basis for the future, from which the whole company and all its brands will benefit,” according to Bavarian bosses.
In fact, the project aims to answer the question “How will a car that can move both autonomous and user driven?”. A production version has already been announced, with the model coming to appear on the streets of 2021.
Until then, the new Vision iNEXT has managed to stir up many controversies among BMW’s admirers. And it’s not hard to figure out why this situation: the Bavarian concept has a polarizing design, especially at the level of the foreign department.
Inside, being a car with autonomous capabilities, the project adopts a series of elements that create the feeling of living. Even more interesting sounds like the solution chosen to replace the classic multimedia system with displays including for passengers.
Intelligent Beam Technology can serve both as readable light and as an interactive projection screen, “says BMW. “This allows text from a printed book to be complemented by images, animations and interactive graphics, all of which can be controlled by touch,” the Bavarian said.
As for the Vision iNEXT project engine, well … under the hood of the car there is a complete electric propulsion system. Exact technical specifications, such as maximum power, battery capacity or total autonomy, are missing for the moment.
But there is plenty of time to clarify this issue, a production version of the controversial concept being planned – we recall – for 2021. Now it remains to be seen with which of the design elements presented today we will meet at the beginning of the next decade.
